About Pedro Marin

The person behind FreeCDLTests.com — an active CDL holder who built the site he wished existed when he was studying for his own test.

Why I Built This Site

When I was going through the CDL process, I kept running into the same problem: free practice test sites were either outdated, buried under paywalls, or so generic they barely matched the real exam. The good resources cost money. The free ones weren't good enough.

So I built FreeCDLTests.com — a completely free, no-registration CDL practice test site built by someone who actually holds the license. Every question on this site is based on the same official CDL manual your state DMV uses to write the real exam.

"The free resources weren't good enough. So I built better ones."

My Background

I was born in Phoenix, Arizona and raised in California — so I've got roots in two of the country's biggest CDL markets. I've been a licensed driver since I was 19. I got my CDL through the Arizona MVD process and have been driving commercially ever since.

My CDL comes with HazMat (H) and Tanker (N) endorsements — two of the more demanding endorsements on the exam. HazMat requires a federal background check through the TSA on top of the written knowledge test. Tanker covers liquid surge physics and rollover prevention that most drivers never think about until they're hauling a full load. I've studied and tested on all of it, and I write from that experience.

I'm bilingual in English and Spanish. A significant portion of CDL applicants in Arizona, California, Texas, and Florida are native Spanish speakers — and finding quality CDL study material in Spanish is even harder than finding it in English. That's something I'm actively working to improve on this site.

What Makes This Site Different

🪪
Real Credentials

Active CDL with HazMat and Tanker endorsements. Not a content writer. Not an SEO agency. Someone who sat for these tests.

📋
Official Sources Only

Every question is based on official state CDL manuals — the same ones the DMV uses to write the real exam. No invented questions.

💰
Actually Free

No "free trial." No question limit before a paywall. Every practice test on this site is free — permanently. The only paid feature is the optional Exam Simulator.

📱
Built for How You Study

Most CDL students study on a phone, often in a truck, a break room, or a parking lot. This site is mobile-first and works everywhere.

The Exam Simulator

The only thing that costs money on this site is the Exam Simulator — a one-time $6.99 purchase that unlocks a timed, randomized test that mirrors the real CDL exam format. No subscription. No auto-renewal. Ever.

I priced it at $6.99 because I wanted it to be genuinely accessible. A CDL opens the door to careers that pay $55,000–$80,000+ a year. Seven dollars is a reasonable investment. If you can't afford it, everything else on the site is still completely free.

A Note on Accuracy

CDL test content is standardized at the federal level through the FMCSA, which means the core General Knowledge, Air Brakes, HazMat, and endorsement content is consistent across all 50 states. State-specific variations exist — things like test fees, passing scores, age requirements, and retake policies — and I research those separately for each state page.

If you spot an error, a question that doesn't match your state's current handbook, or anything that seems off — let me know. I take accuracy seriously and update the site when things change.
