Florida CDL at a Glance (Plain-English Summary)

Age & eligibility:
18+ for intrastate (within Georgia), 21 to drive interstate, carry hazmat or transport passengers. -
License:
Must hold a valid Florida driver’s license. -
Medical card:
CDL drivers must carry a DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate. -
CLP:
Pass the CDL knowledge exams for your class (A/B/C) and endorsements to get a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). -
ELDT:
Entry‑Level Driver Training federally required for Class A/B and H, S, P endorsements. -
Skills test:
CLP must be held at least 14 days before skills test (pre‑trip, basic control, road). -
Hazmat:
Requires TSA background check and Hazmat knowledge test. -
Testing agency:
Managed by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV).
