About the Passenger (P) Test
The Passenger endorsement applies to transit buses, charter and tour coaches, and other vehicles designed to carry a set number of people. Because you're responsible for everyone on board, the test goes deep on passenger safety and the rules that keep loading, unloading, and driving with a full coach safe.
Topics include pre-trip and post-trip passenger inspections, safe loading and unloading, emergency exits and equipment, prohibited practices like fueling with passengers aboard, and managing your riders and standees. Unlike the knowledge-only endorsements, P also requires a road test in the type of bus you'll drive.
What Test-Takers Miss Most
- 1Prohibited practices — Fueling with passengers aboard, towing a disabled bus with riders still on it — the absolute rules the test expects you to know cold.
- 2Loading and unloading safety — Where passengers may stand, handling standees behind the standee line, and securing baggage so aisles stay clear.
- 3Emergency equipment and exits — What equipment must be on board and how emergency exits and procedures are checked during inspection.
